Buffalo Trace Distillery surprised visitors again today with a Sunday release of E.H. Taylor Jr. Barrel Proof, proving that weekends are no longer the quiet stretches they once were.
The bottle went live around 12:30 p.m. and disappeared fast. Lines formed early and by early afternoon the release was long gone, leaving late arrivals staring at empty shelves.

This drop landed on October 5, 2025, right in the middle of Keeneland’s opening weekend. In our October Special Release Odds post, we noted that “Opening day at Keeneland arrives on the first Friday of October and may add a small bump to that weekend’s odds…”
That pattern now appears to be evolving. Recent activity has shown a steady uptick in Saturday and Sunday drops, suggesting Buffalo Trace could be leaning toward a weekend rhythm. Collectors who plan their visits around early and midweek releases may want to start factoring in those weekend surges.
With E.H. Taylor Jr. Barrel Proof leading the way, weekend releases are clearly becoming part of the new normal at Buffalo Trace.

Price?
i’d rather they do unannounced releases like the EH Taylor , than the announced release of Stagg last week that lasted until around 9:20 am. we drove 2-3/4 hours to get in line at 8:15 am never dreaming they would announce a special release and only put out 600 bottles! Probably our last trip to the distillery!
You got in line at 8:15 and expected to get a bottle of stagg after people had been camping out all night. Makes sense🤦♂️
