Just one day after announcing plans to release W.L. Weller Full Proof at the distillery on Thursday, June 25, Buffalo Trace Distillery has officially postponed the highly anticipated release.
The distillery shared the update on social media Wednesday morning, citing feedback from visitors who attended last weekend’s Weller C.Y.P.B. release during Father’s Day weekend.
According to Buffalo Trace, the decision was made after hearing concerns from guests about the overall experience, including lengthy lines and parking challenges that resulted from the overwhelming turnout.
“Thank you to the Buffalo Trace Distillery community for your energy and support this weekend. We heard your feedback,” the distillery wrote in its announcement.
Buffalo Trace said it is postponing Thursday’s Weller Full Proof release so it can make improvements before hosting another special bottle event.
“We are postponing Thursday’s Weller Full Proof drop so we can make sure the next one is a great experience for all,” the statement continued.
The announcement comes after Buffalo Trace Daily first reported Tuesday that Weller Full Proof was expected to be released on June 25. The distillery had also promoted the release across its social media channels before ultimately deciding to delay it.
While no new release date has been announced, Buffalo Trace indicated that updates will be shared in the near future.

Visitors who were planning to travel to Frankfort on Thursday will still find several Weller-themed activities taking place at the distillery. Buffalo Trace said guests can enjoy complimentary Weller Full Proof tastings, 10% off merchandise, 10% off food purchases at the John G. Carlisle Café, and $5 cocktails.
For collectors hoping to add a bottle of Weller Full Proof to their collection, the postponement means a little more waiting. However, the distillery appears committed to ensuring the next release runs more smoothly than the crowded Father’s Day weekend event that prompted the change.
Buffalo Trace Daily will continue monitoring the situation and will provide updates as soon as a new Weller Full Proof release date is announced.
Can you release the fool proof the same way you released the 4 grain or not enough fool proof to release that same way?
Do it like a raffle. You could enter online, one entry per person which is tied to their own drivers license so they can’t cheat. If your entry is picked you have say 2 months or longer to pick it up for those that live farther away like myself. You would get rid of the ridiculous lines other that as normal people coming to visit

Another Buffalo Trace fuck up. You made it worse by not allowing people to park early and getting in to snacks. Plus announcing it 2/3 days in advance doesn’t help either.
I live nearly 600 miles north of Frankfort. I was so excited several months ago when you implemented your new reservation system. Granted there were some things that ended up being problematic and you had to set that program aside. I had high hopes that it would be the answer and give fans that live far away a chance for a great bottle. Are there any plans to make the necessary changes and revisit that system in the future. Thank You.

Sucked for The people that parked where they thought they could park and got towed. It was A very expensive bottle after paying a tow I’m sure
I like having notice of drops. I expect to wait in line. I was there for the CYPD drop and waited in line over 5 hours . Did not care! How often can I score CYPB at msrp? Go early and be prepared to wait in line!
Myself and a friend made both weekends to wait in line for the Weller 12 Year and the C.Y.P.B. releases. We were certainly appreciative of the fact that they were announced early, so we could make plans. Standing and waiting in a line has to be expected and it’s up to each person to decide when they want to arrive. We arrived both weekends at about 6am… and we were about #300 in line… 2 hours before the 8:00am opening. We had to find a place to park outside the distillery… No big deal, as we wanted to make sure we were there early in order to get bottles and also to get back home a little earlier. What we DID NOT appreciate… was the fact that BT opened their parking lots at 8:00am and by the time we walked from outside the property to get to the queue line… there were people coming in the parking lot and jumping in line… in front of all of us that planned getting there early and had waited for 2+ hours to make it in. The people that were let in the parking lot SHOULD HAVE been roped off and told to walk to the end of the long line of people that were there waiting to get in. Yes… there were plenty of bottles and we all got what we came for… but that HAS to be addressed. It is definitely not fair to the hundreds of people that had to find parking, wait in line and then realize that the ones that were lucky to get in the parking lot when it opened, could just cut in front of those of us that planned and patiently waited at these releases. PLEASE make some change to this issue when figuring out how to make things better for your announced releases.
Well said Kevin. My experience was a duplicate to his. I was number 500 in line and all I could do was stand there in disgust watch 100+ people from the parking lot join the line in front of me
Last Thursday we came down to get Weller 12 yr.We waited in line finally before we got to turn in the parking lot we had 2 excursion buses pass us and seen a Gold shield tour bus come in. Those people where unloading before we could park. People who take tours shouldn’t be allowed to enter and purchase bottles before the ones nine before them. Obviously the only way to avoid the craziness is to have a lottery. Have the people enter their name ans number have the computer or a randomized alert the individuals. They must have a valid and working number and valid ID as well. Give them a set time limit to come by ans pick up their bottle if selected if they fail to do so it is given to someone thats not on the list that wasnt selected.
I disagree the guest visiting and taking time to tour the distillery should absolutely be able to get there bottles first they aren’t just there for a cheap bottle they are also there for the actual tour and to view the property you know that’s how it goes everyday that there isn’t a bottle release why shouldn’t it stay that way oh I’m sorry let me guess your there and the whole world should change for you unreal
Have the major releases at the convention center where there is parking and they can handle the crowds.
There is no convention center here in Frankfort anymore.
