August has still felt unusually quiet at the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Could September make up for it?
After seven special release days in July, Buffalo Trace had six in August. But several came in short bursts with very limited bottle counts, meaning some releases were gone almost as quickly as they appeared. The month included E.H. Taylor Jr. Four Grain, Weller Single Barrel, Stagg and Blanton’s Gold.
Now, Buffalo Trace Daily has completed its September Special Release Odds, using the distillery’s 2026 release history through Aug. 30th to project the likelihood of a special allocated bottle appearing each day.
And there are plenty of reasons September could get interesting.
First up is Labor Day weekend. Buffalo Trace surprised bourbon hunters with a special release on Labor Day last year, and our September forecast shows one day of the holiday weekend with noticeably better odds than the others.
Then there’s the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, Sept. 10-13 in Bardstown. With thousands of bourbon fans descending on Kentucky, could Buffalo Trace try to lure some of those visitors to Frankfort with a special release? We’ve factored the start of the festival into our September outlook.
And don’t forget about Weller Full Proof. Buffalo Trace hasn’t released Weller Full Proof since the planned late-June release was suddenly canceled, raising the possibility that a sizable supply of those allocated bottles could still be waiting for another release date.

It looks like you might have missed two Stagg releases last week. They had small amounts of Stagg available last Tuesday and Wednesday morning (8/25 and 8/26). I was there at opening both days.
Thanks for the good info! Got the site updated to include this! Hopefully you were able to snag a Stagg!
