The Daniel Weller Kamut Wheat Recipe bourbon features a distinctive design and a story that reaches back to the earliest days of the Weller family in Kentucky.

The label identifies the bourbon as Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, bottled at 94 proof, or 47% ABV, in a 750 ml bottle. It also identifies the recipe as a Kamut wheat recipe, giving this release a notable twist on the wheated bourbon style associated with the Weller name.

Who Was Daniel Weller?

According to the label, Daniel Weller was the grandfather of William Larue Weller.

In 1794, Daniel Weller left Maryland with his wife and children and traveled down the Ohio River. The family eventually settled in Kentucky, where the label says Daniel continued the family tradition of distilling.

That history provides the inspiration for the bottle.

Rather than focusing solely on William Larue Weller, one of the best known names in the Weller story, this bourbon is presented as a tribute to an earlier generation of the family.

What Is Kamut Wheat?

The label describes Kamut wheat as an ancient European grain with a long history in traditional bread and farmhouse ales.

Kamut is rarely seen in modern whiskey production, making the grain choice one of the most interesting details about this bottle.

The label says the recipe was inspired by Daniel Weller and his pioneering spirit, connecting the unusual grain to the historical theme behind the release.

A Bottle Built Around History

The packaging reinforces that connection.

The front features a large Daniel Weller signature-style name beneath the Weller family emblem. A vintage-inspired gold label carries the 1794 date, while the back features an illustration of a riverboat carrying people and barrels.

That riverboat imagery ties directly into the story printed on the label about Daniel Weller’s journey down the Ohio River.

“A tribute to Daniel, the trail blazer of the Weller family.”

Distilled at Buffalo Trace

The label states that the bourbon was distilled, aged and bottled by Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky.

The 94 proof listed on the Kamut Wheat Recipe label is also consistent with the Daniel Weller line so far. Both previous Daniel Weller releases were bottled at 94 proof, or 47% ABV.

That makes Kamut the third wheat grain highlighted in the experimental Daniel Weller series, following Emmer and Spelt, while maintaining the same 94-proof bottling strength.

The Daniel Weller line has used different wheat varieties to explore how changing one of bourbon’s key flavor grains can affect the finished whiskey while keeping the broader concept of a wheated bourbon intact.

The Kamut Wheat Recipe label suggests Buffalo Trace is continuing that approach with another uncommon grain.

A New Chapter in the Daniel Weller Series

The Daniel Weller Kamut Wheat Recipe label appears designed to do more than identify what is inside the bottle. It tells a story about where the Weller family began and uses the unusual Kamut wheat recipe as a connection between that history and the whiskey itself.

For Weller collectors, the grain may be the biggest clue about where this bottle fits within the larger Daniel Weller series.

Emmer came first. Spelt followed. Now the newly discovered label points to Kamut wheat as the next grain in the experiment.

Three Wheat Recipes. One 94-Proof Series.

Long before William Larue Weller became one of the most recognizable names in Kentucky bourbon, the family’s story was already underway.

The Daniel Weller series is using that history to explore what the Weller name’s signature ingredient can do when the wheat itself changes.
